Swisher Electric Cooperative is looking for a safety-minded professional to join our electric cooperative as a Safety Coordinator.

This position will help promote a strong culture of safety while supporting employees who work every day to provide safe, reliable electric service to our members.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain the overall Safety and Loss Control Program for all cooperative personnel.
• Provide administrative support to the Safety Committee.
• Coordinate, schedule, and attend Safety and Loss Control meetings with industry professionals.
• Maintain all necessary compliance and safety records required by cooperative policy and regulatory agencies.
• Work closely to ensure that the buildings and facilities meet or exceed RESAP safety requirements.
• Investigate and document all on-the-job incidents involving SEC employees, vehicles and/or equipment. Report on the findings to the direct supervisor and department managers.
• Coordinate with certified professionals for the purchase, testing, and maintenance of all personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment. 
• Oversee and communicate industry standards for the purchase of Fire-Retardant clothing.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance, safety, and training records, including OSHA 300 logs, PCB reports, injury and accident documentation, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and the Emergency Action Plan.
• Maintain and update plans required by governing authorities including but not limited to the Emergency Operations Plan and Evacuation Plan. Keep employees aware and informed of their roles within the plans.
• Oversee employees enrolled in the Northwest Lineman College Apprenticeship Program and ensure training requirements are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with the Apprenticeship Contract.
• Maintain and update Employee Safety Manuals.
• Stay current with all applicable safety codes as they pertain to the Cooperative’s business activities and any accidents that occur therein.
• Train all new employees in safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Assist with needed line locates for the Texas811 Program, and act as a backup for substation issues. 
• Complete and submit safety related required reporting to federal, state, and local agencies in a timely manner.
• Coordinate and participate in safety programs for general public & schools.
• Serve as the contact person for all agencies pertaining to safety.
• Remain informed about current safety and security trends by attending national conferences and by participating in local and state safety and security organizations.
• Be aware of OSHA Safety Data Sheets for all products being used and stored.
• Will be required to submit to random drug & alcohol testing per Cooperative Policy.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Proficiency with Microsoft operating systems and applications preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
• OSHA 30 training
• Must obtain and maintain NRECA RESAP accreditation.
• Must obtain and maintain Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP) certification.
• Knowledge of Texas Excavation Safety and DOT guidelines preferred.
• Understanding of regulatory and compliance issues relevant to safety roles.
• Familiarity with rural electric cooperative operations is a plus.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and insurable driving record required.
